South Hills ECDC: Launching a lifetime of learning

Posted by JCC Pittsburgh on May 2, 2016

What’s the best way for young children to spend their day?

At the JCC South Hills, children from six weeks through age 5, including Pre-K and Kindergarten Enrichment, are engaged in activities that nurture and inspire them as they grow, preparing them for kindergarten and a lifetime of learning.

The JCC’s Early Childhood Development Center is a “home away from home,” where parents can trust that their children are safe, secure and appropriately challenged, cared for by professionals who encourage children to grow and thrive.

“We’re like one big family,” says ECDC Director Kathy Revesz. “I love getting hugs from the children every day.”

The South Hills ECDC, housed in a secure, dedicated wing, builds special activities such as swim lessons, nature hikes and music classes into every day, taking advantage of the JCC’s comprehensive facility.

What makes our Early Childhood Development Center special?

  • Indoor heated swimming pool with instructional swim
  • Full court gymnasium with age-appropriate activities
  • Huge “Backyard” with two fenced-in age-specific playgrounds for toddlers and ages 2-3, and the Marci Lynn Bernstein outdoor playground with wheelchair access
  • Nature program with Scott Conservancy
  • Music class with Sally Mathews
  • Lunches and snacks included
  • Escorts to JCC enrichment classes such as dance, sports and additional swim lessons

The curriculum is enriched with “movement, song and music to enhance pre-reading readiness skills,” Revesz says.  “We provide lots of developmentally appropriate activities.”

ECDC is accredited by NAEYC and Pennsylvania Keystone Stars 4.
