Kids Nite Out

Enjoy a Saturday night out while your child has fun with us! Our Kids Nite Out (PreK*-Grade 6 – Squirrel Hill) and Sitters on Saturday (ages 3-12 – South Hills) are held Saturday evenings every month, with dinner and activities provided.

J Nights, in Squirrel Hill, are held on specified weekday evenings, offering additional opportunities for children to experience new programs and unique opportunities.

Teens

Jewish Celebrations including our annual Chanukah candle lightings, Snyder Family Purim Carnival, Yom Ha’Atzmaut celebration and Tikkun Leil Shavuot study sessons, invite the community to share in the rituals and commemorations of Jewish heritage.

Musicals

The Philip Chosky Performing Arts Program supports children’s and teens’ musical productions and performing arts camp.

Fitness Challenges

American Jewish Museum

The American Jewish Museum, housed in the JCC in Squirrel Hill, explores contemporary Jewish art that facilitates dialogue about art, philosophy and culture to promote interfaith and intergenerational explorations.

Family Caregiver Support

The JCC provides support for the bereaved, as well as for new Americans and for older adults facing isolation.

Healthy Aging

The JCC in Squirrel Hill and the South Hills offer comprehensive fitness and wellness programming for older adults, including SilverSneakers® Fitness Programs, Silver&Fit® and JCC classes designed specifically for older adults and taught by certified instructors.

JCC SilverSneakers and Silver&Fit® participants, along with members, also have access to the JCC’s comprehensive fitness facilities, indoor swimming pools, gymnasiums and general locker rooms.

Adults

JCC offers something for every interest and need. Pursue your creative side with a paintbrush, sing with a chorus, practice your Yiddish, or take on the challenge in a game of bridge or mahj.

Enjoy a hot kosher lunch in the J Cafe and meet your friends for a walk around the indoor track, a game of pickleball, or a fitness class.

J Days

Kids have fun at the JCC when school is not in session. J Days (Squirrel Hill) and School’s Off Days (South Hills) are programmed with field trips and in-house, and most days include swimming, creating and run-around time for children from PreK through grade 6.

Family

Events for families range from Shabbat and holiday celebrations to kayak nights, cookouts, open house fun during the South Hills’ annual birthday party and special pool-centric events at the Family Park in Monroeville every summer.

Highlights in Squirrel Hill include Kef (fun) Weekends several times a year with Got Shabbat events on Saturdays and Family Shabbat Dinners on Fridays, the annual Snyder Family Purim Carnival, and July 4 cookouts at the Family Park.

In the South Hills, families look forward to the annual South Hills Birthday Bash, Fall Open House and community-wide Purim carnival.

Teen Philanthropy

Each teen contributes $500 of his or her Bat/Bar Mitzvah money to a pooled endowment. Contributions are matched dollar for dollar through a generous grant from Edward and the late Linda Goldston in memory of their son, Samuel.
Using what they have learned about philanthropy rooted in Jewish values, the teens work together to determine how to award grants using their collective money. They review grant proposals from prospective grant recipients, make site visits to programs and organizations that have submitted proposals and, ultimately, choose how to distribute the funds.

Diller Teen Fellowship

The Diller Teen Fellows Program is Pittsburgh’s premiere leadership development program for Jewish teens in grades 10 and 11. Now operating in 24 communities in the United States, Canada, South Africa, Australia, and Israel, the goal of the Diller program is to develop future generations of active, effective leaders with a strong Jewish identity, commitment to the Jewish people, respect for pluralism and love of Israel.

Teens

The JCC is a gathering place for teens, offering programs to suit many interests and needs with the goal of enriching and creating a strong community.

Birthday Parties

Let the JCC take care of your child’s birthday party. We offer parties of all sorts at the JCCs in Squirrel Hill and the South Hills, and from Memorial Day through Labor Day, you can have a swim party at the Henry Kaufmann Family Park in Monroeville.

Fun Programs

We have so much fun (and learning) at the JCC!
In Squirrel Hill, our J Sundays programs including Sunday Sampler and Sunday Fun Day provide enrichment and a chance to try something new. Special one-time programs can range from Froyo (Frozen-inspired yoga) to Super Science to Master Chefs, and more.

In the South Hills, kids and families celebrate the facility’s birthday every January and participate in community holiday events geared towards absolute fun. The South Hills’s “backyard” and access to neighboring Scott Conservancy provides great settings for cookouts and gatherings.

After School Clubhouse

Clubhouse at the JCC in Squirrel Hill is the premier after-school care program in Pittsburgh. Children from Kindergarten to grade 6 come to their “home away from home” Monday through Friday until 6 pm and thrive in the enriched, exciting and nurturing Clubhouse environment.

Clubhouse combines top quality facilities with trained, caring, creative staff. Our goals are to stay abreast of best practices and to bring unique and interesting experiences to our children. Each day, children are met at their buses, escorted to their home rooms, given a healthy snack including fruits and vegetables, and assisted with homework. They choose from a wide variety of clubs each day, including cooking, sports, drama, science, art, pool games and more. We visit the library, celebrate Shabbat every week and nurture the emotional, physical and social well-being of your child.

Children, Teens & Family

The JCC provides fun and enriching programs and opportunities that foster our community of children, teens and their families as they grow. Our community (kehillah) incorporates the values of respect (kavod), kindness (chesed) and character (tikkun middot), and our programs are designed to encourage learning, leadership skills, teamwork and self-confidence.

Babysitting

Our trained caregivers provide babysitting services in safe and secure age-appropriate play areas, so that you can work out and enjoy the JCC on your own.

You must remain in the building or attending group exercise classes in the building while using JCC babysitting.

PJ Library

Free Jewish Bedtime Stories and Songs for Families. Sign up for PJ Library and your children ages 6 months through 5 ½ years will receive a free, high quality children’s book or CD each month.

My Baby and Me

My Baby and Me, based at the JCC’s Family Place in Squirrel Hill, runs social and educational activities for parents/caregivers with young children.

A variety of free drop-in groups, classes and special events designed for families with children age 4 and under are offered weekly.

My Baby and Me staff support new families in their transition to parenthood and our programs offer opportunities for parents and caregivers to interact with one another while their children play and explore.

Squirrel Hill - Early Childhood Development Center

The JCC’s Early Childhood Development Centers (ECDC) provide a nurturing, enriching and safe environment for young children age 6 weeks to five years old.

Our child care and preschool programs offer flexible scheduling with extended day options, kindergarten enrichment and summer camps from 7 am to 6 pm every weekday.

ECDC prepares children for the academic and life challenges ahead. Enriched with language, reading, math, science, art, music and fun, we promote Jewish values, encourage children to appreciate diversity and provide an environment that promotes acceptance and a sense of belonging.

Early Childhood

Young children are active participants in JCC life. Our Early Childhood Development Centers in Squirrel Hill and the South Hills provide enriched early education and child care programs for children from infancy to five years old. Families with young children can find activities and community through our My Baby and Me and PJ Library programming in Squirrel Hill and in the South Hills. We also offer Shortstop Babysitting at both locations to enable parents to work out, knowing their child is in a safe, nurturing environment.

Basketball

For many of us, the JCC IS basketball. Our reputation, facilities and staff have the JCC quickly becoming one of the Pittsburgh area’s premiere basketball destinations and offers members year round basketball competition, recreation and education for players of all ages and levels of ability.

Our gymnasiums–-two in Squirrel Hill and one in the South Hills–-are well-maintained full-court gyms open year-round.

The JCC offers a wide variety of basketball programs and clinics. We take great pride in our staff, who instruct and mentor the players, and encourage them to work on their strengths as well as their weaknesses in a well-disciplined and competitive environment. It is extremely important to us that each and every one of our participants becomes a better basketball player after they have gone through our various programs.

Sports & Recreation (South Hills)

The JCC in the South Hills offers great sports and recreation programs for all ages – from preschool classes to youth sports, teams and leagues, to adult pickup games and leagues.

Our full court gymnasium is well-maintained and open year-round. Our facilities also include a dance studio and access to sports fields.

From Little Ninjas, Mighty Kick Soccer and Tiny Tennis for young children through teens, to adult basketball and Pickleball, the JCC has it all!

JCC School of Dance

The JCC School of Dance offers a curriculum that provides participants from pre-school through adults with unique, creative experiences that emphasize fun and learning. We encourage creative exploration in a non-competitive atmosphere that fosters self-confidence, self-esteem and independence.

Our classes are offered at developmentally appropriate levels and are taught with sensitivity to each student’s abilities. Our goal is to encourage creativity and a love of dance based on a solid technical foundation. JCC School of Dance participants present an end-of-the year recital to showcase what they have learned throughout the year.

Our comprehensive aquatics programming includes group and private swim lessons from infant through adults, aquatics fitness classes and swim teams.

Our comprehensive sports, recreation, aquatics and dance programs are held in our modern, well-maintained facilities including heated indoor swimming pools, full court gymnasiums, dance studios, convertible squash/racquetball courts and outdoor Olympic-size and zero-entry pools for summer use.

Early Childhood Camps

Located in the Early Childhood Development Centers in Squirrel Hill and the South Hills, as well as at J&R at the Family Park in Monroeville, our camps for young children provide safe, structured camp experiences with outdoor and indoor activities appropriate for each developmental stage. Your child will enjoy swim times and water play, arts & crafts, nature, and lots of time for discovery through guided play.

Performing Arts Camps

Performing Arts Camp offers a full day of training in theater, music and dance. Campers stage a public performance at the end of the session.

Hone your craft with expert faculty and theater arts professionals as we produce an exhilarating Broadway show!

Before-and after-camp care is available for all of our day camps.

Specialty Camps

One-Week Specialty Camps for kids entering grades 1-8 provide campers with unique, focused experiences in a variety of program areas where campers find new opportunities to engage, create and have fun!

Specialty Camp campers are encouraged by expert instructors and enthusiastic staff to explore new interests and gain knowledge and skills, and campers gain more confidence and proficiency in their specialty.

Before- and after-camp care is available for all of our day camps.

Teen Travel Camps

At Noar & Bogrim Travel Camp, campers in grades 5-9 enjoy time with friends while building new relationships and gaining independence. Through group activities and decision-making opportunities that happen during every daily trip, campers learn how to work together as a team.

Daily adventures await our middle school campers every summer with exciting excursions in and around town, and five-day Big Trip getaways outside of PIttsburgh.

Noar & Bogrim Travel Camp travels by school bus for daily trips and by coach bus for Big Trips.

South Hills Day Camps

Traditional Day Camps–Sabra for children entering K-grade 2 and Chalutzim for grades 3-6–and provide children with an enriching summer filled with fun activities. For teens, we offer pre-counselor-in-training, Ozrim for grades 7-8, and CIT Leadership for grades 9-10.
Specialized day camps include Performing Arts Camp, and “Wet & Wild” and adventure Specialty Camps.
Before- and after-camp care is available for all of our day camps. Our flexible Pre- and Post-Camp Fun Days bridge schedules so the fun lasts all summer!

Emma Kaufmann Camp

Nestled on 200 acres along Cheat Lake near Morgantown, West Virginia, campers age 8-16 can enjoy exciting and challenging activities with our (7) 3-4 -week sessions, or a 1-week option for first-time or specialty campers. Children participate in outdoor sports arts & crafts and adventure activities.

James & Rachel Levinson Day Camp

J&R’s traditional day camp setting provides the opportunity for children to experience emotional growth and independence and gain self-confidence.

Located on a beautiful 100-acre site, J&R creates opportunities for each child to grow through adventurous, safe and fun experiences while becoming part of the inclusive, welcoming J&R Day Camp community.

Before-and after-camp care is available for all of our day camps. Our flexible Pre-and Post-Camp J Days bridge schedules so the fun lasts all summer!

Camps

JCC Camps are special places for children and teens. Each summer, hundreds of campers enjoy extraordinary experiences of fun, friendship and learning.

JCC Camps support children and teens on a journey of self-discovery as they develop new skills and confidence. We promote positive sense of Jewish identity and encourage Jewish values for all children such as helping and welcoming others, and respecting nature.
Safety and security come first in all of our camp settings. Full-time JCC professionals provide ongoing security training for counselors, specialists and unit heads throughout the summer.

With a physician’s approval, you can exercise in Centerfit. Marsha Mullen, MS ATC, will guide you through an individualized exercise program using your physician’s recommendations.

Nutrition

Our dietitians can help you lose weight, feel better and develop healthier habits for life!

Massage

Experience a relaxing and rejuvenating massage at Centerfit Platinum in Squirrel Hill. Our facilities include three newly renovated, private massage rooms and new coed massage room.

Interval Training

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is an exercise strategy alternating periods of short intense anaerobic exercise with less intense recovery periords. These short, intense workouts (30-45 minutes) provide improved athletic capacity, conditioning and fat burning.

As an added benefit of this workout style, there’s also an afterburn effect known as EPOC (excess-post exercise oxygen consumption). You increase your metabolism and burn more calories for up to 24 hours after interval training, whereas going for a jog burns almost NO calories after.

Build strength and burn calories in less than an hour!
High Intensity Interval Training is a training technique in which you give all-out, one hundred percent effort through quick, intense bursts of exercise, followed by short recovery periods.
