Here’s a Nutrition Tip That Can Have Immediate Impact!

Whatever eating style you had before, your body likely has different needs today.  This is especially true for woman.  Over the next few posts, I will give some foundational tips to help reduce the symptoms of menopause, manage chronic conditions, or help maintain your ideal weight as you age.

Remember, every individual is different, so it’s always helpful to start by taking a look at your current habits, feelings and symptoms.  Journaling is a good way to start.  It can help to try to correlate which foods trigger your symptoms so that you know what your body craves vs. what does not agree with your system.  From there you can make incremental changes.

Let’s start with one tip that can have a pretty immediate impact:

Limit Highly Processed foods.

In general if it is contained in a wrapper, it is probably not the best option. Even items like energy bars or flavored yogurts with “healthy” or “low fat” on the label should be given a second look.

Many of those foods are highly processed and have lots of added sugars.

These foods tend to have additives, be nutrient sparce and low satiety, leaving us feeling unsatisfied and make us more likely to overeat.

These foods have also been known to negatively impact our mood.

When possible, ditch the wrappers, and load up on sweet fruits, veggies and nuts.  Look for goods that still look like themselves, and enjoy!
