January is National Hobby Month but we keep it going all summer long at James & Rachel Levinson Day Camp, where we cultivate children’s interests every day.
Hobbies are good for us. Besides improving creativity and generating good moods, hobbies enhance the ability to focus and concentrate, training our brains to retain an interest and sparking enthusiasm.
J&R Day Camp provides the ideal setting and an exceptional experience to each and every camper in our beautiful, 100-acre outdoor environment. Every day, our campers have the opportunity to try new things, explore their interests and develop new skills. Our dynamic and eclectic mix of programming includes group activities, special event programs and campers’ selected hobbies.
Campers of all ages may or may not, know what they like to do at J&R Day Camp. We put activity choice in the campers’ hands. The hobby activity period, in which campers customize their experience by choosing the activities they are interested in, is a special part of the J&R Day Camp program. Our intentional approach to high quality curriculum-based activities and the huge range of programmatic offerings separates J&R Day Camp from other day camps here in Pittsburgh.
The goal of the hobby program is to provide each individual camper with the opportunity to experience our many different activities. Our campers will be able to develop new skills, improve on existing skills and potentially achieve mastery of skills. Our opt-in selection process also allows for each camper to have fun!
Our hobby program allows for our campers to:
- Challenge personal skills and gain knowledge in specific activity areas from our specialists
- Work with experts in the field to ensure they are learning the activities the right way
- Explore different activities and challenge physical and mental strength
- Work with other campers and staff to accomplish and master skills
- Take ownership in their own daily schedule and J&R experience by selecting their activities
- Learn new skills and peak new interests
Our campers have a jam-packed schedule of activities. We’ve added the ability for each of our oldest campers to have the opportunity to select at least one hobby activity, almost once a day, each week.
Our hobbies for the summer include:
- Improv theater
- Learning to ride a bike
- Gardening
- Low & High Ropes Challenge course
- Nature trail blazing
- Creek trekking
- Jewelry Making
- Sports (basketball, tennis, hockey, soccer and more)
- Swim Instruction
- Arts & Crafts
- Minecraft
- Sewing
- And more…
Make sure your child has a hobby-enriched and exciting summer!
