High Holidays of Hope – Yom Kippur

Join us for an essential conversation about our responsibility to stand UP with our neighbors when their reproductive health rights, civic engagement rights, and gender identity rights are restricted. Our conversation will be highlighted with modern interpretations of the Yom Kippur confessional prayers. We will conclude with a contemporary Yizkor – Memorial Service.

This program provides the community with a spiritual way of better understanding the challenges our neighbors face. While each of us might have our own opinions, the JCC – as an agency – focuses on the impact on our neighbors and how we can stand UP with each other. We choose a values-based approach rather than a partisan approach.

Our moderator, Lisa Schroeder, President and CEO of The Pittsburgh Foundation will guide us in a conversation with Sydney Etheredge, President and CEO, Planned Parenthood of Western Pennsylvania; Anna Hollis, President and CEO, Amachi Pittsburgh; and Lynz Sickler, Executive Director, Proud Haven.

Sydney Etheredge, President and CEO, Planned Parenthood of Western Pennsylvania

Deeply committed to fighting for health equity and the elimination of health disparities in the United States. Proven ability to direct successful team projects, including budget management and implementing effective policies and procedures. Background in health policy and business development.

Anna Hollis, President and CEO, Amachi Pittsburgh

Lisa Schroeder, President and CEO of The Pittsburgh Foundation
Lisa Schroeder is President and CEO of The Pittsburgh Foundation. She was appointed in February of 2019 and took the helm in June of that year to lead the philanthropy, which was established in 1945. As the leader of one of the oldest and largest of the country’s 750 community foundations, Lisa is only the sixth president and first woman in the position.

Lynz Sickler – Proud Haven, Executive Director
I am a community advocate with over 25 years of experience working directly with LGBTQIA+ youth, young adults, and those experiencing crisis. I serve on multiple nonprofit and community-based boards to support the greater LGBTQIA+ community and help increase my ability to encourage collaboration and increase resources for those we serve. I am an avid volunteer, love working with people, and work well both independently and in groups. I love a challenge.

We are grateful to Rabbi Ron Symons, Melissa Hiller, Maggie Feinstein, Kohenet Keshira haLev Fife, and Spiritual Leader Sara Stock Mayo, for their spiritual leadership of these programs.
