The JCC, in partnership with Awaken Pittsburgh, the region’s go-to mindfulness resource, is providing our members with a number of in-person and virtual guided meditations each month.

Based on evidence-based meditation and mindfulness practices, participants will learn lifelong skills that have the power to transform lives. A proven effective tool for reducing stress and improving one’s focus throughout the day, a regular mindfulness practice not only brings powerful, personal benefits to practitioners but to those with whom they connect each and every day.

 

 

Mindfulness Meditation (in-person and on-line)

Awaken Pittsburgh offers three monthly guided meditations open to anyone.   This is a chance to practice mindfulness in community together.

Each session follows the same format: introductions, a period of guided meditation, and then a chance to support one another, discuss how our meditations are going at home, and ask any questions we have about practice.

Pre-registration, via the links provided, helps us to prepare and ensure that we have room for everyone.


EXPLORING THE TREES OF CONTEMPLATIVE PRACTICES

We are pleased to continue Awaken Pittsburgh’s Exploring the Tree of Contemplative Practices series by engaging with the ‘creative’ branch. This series draws inspiration from the Tree of Contemplative Practices graphic from the Center for Contemplative Mind and Society which we reference in our core trainings.

Over these seven months, we will partner with community practitioners to offer a workshop on each of the 7 ‘branches’:

Ritual/Cyclical, Stillness, Relational, Movement, Generative, Active and Creative.

Join us on Saturday, February 4, from 10 AM – Noon as we explore the Creative branch with drumming and music, led by Stephanie and Bob Miller.

This is a hybrid event. Please join us in-person at the Squirrel Hill JCC, or on zoom.

Workshop Description:  Stephanie and Bob Miller will be providing a live musical relaxation experience and sharing interactive techniques for releasing stress such as drumming, deep listening, and connection with the present moment.  Drums will be provided for those attending in-person.  If you join on-line, feel free to bring an instrument, or object, that can serve as a drum, or just enjoy listening.

Bio:  Stephanie and Bob Miller from Music for Life of Pittsburgh have been providing support through music to the Pittsburgh region for over 12 years.
