The South Hills and Greater Pittsburgh community is invited to a special concert by the Israeli-touring band, Shufuni, on Thursday, August 1, 2024, 7-9 pm, at Beth El Congregation of the South Hills

This first-of-a-kind tour through North America, open to everyone, is in partnership with Moving to Our Center (MTOC), and the JCC Association of North America (JCCA).

The concert will be a unique and moving experience as Shufuni’s four traveling band members express through music and stories how the events of October 7 and the days following have altered their lives and in many ways, their identities.

Shufuni was established in 2022 to promote young artists coming from Sderot, an area renowned for its music scene, to share the unique voice of Israel’s southern communities. Current members include folk singer/songwriter Daniel Waiss, soul-folk singer Linor Ein Gedi, guitarist, drummer and music educator Rotem Meir Levi, and performer Mira Semandoyev, who recently appeared in the finals of the Israeli Idol show, Hakochav Haba.

On October 7, 2023, Shufuni lost members of the band as well as their audience who were murdered during the horrific attack by Hamas. Four band members will be performing and speaking at the August 1 concert.

The concert and opportunity for Q&A with the band is recommended for ages 16+.

Backpacks are not allowed into the facility.

Moving to Our Center (MTOC) is a nonprofit organization that facilitates intentional education, dialogue, and experiences for the Jewish community and beyond. By bridging complex and timely topics, MTOC aims to help “demystify the other” and inspire greater understanding and connection—through events such as Shufuni.
