As we prepare to turn the calendar to 2022, our thoughts also turn to how we can ensure that all our neighbors have fair representation in the PA voting system in the new year and beyond. The headlines and op-eds are warning us that redistricting in PA is confusing. We know that we need clear explanations of the current state of PA state districting along with the possibilities of how it might change. We recommend that you attend this session:
The Intersection of Redistricting and Racial Equity: A Case Study in Pennsylvania
Dec 15, 2021 07:30 PM in Eastern Time (US and Canada)
Every ten years, states lead a high-stakes process of drawing maps for Congressional and state legislative districts. This year, Keystone Counts, a coalition of advocacy groups, service providers, and community organizations, led an effort to engage the public and draw maps in several counties to increase representation for Pennsylvania’s growing communities of color. The end result is a set of eight state house district maps that the coalition is advancing through the redistricting process.
Join the RAC-PA (The Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism – PA) for an educational workshop and program with George Cheung, the Director of More Equitable Democracy, for a workshop in which participants will deepen their understanding of the electoral system used in Pennsylvania, the importance of the redistricting process, and the potential impact of the coalition’s “unity maps”. Further, the presentation will also cover future reform opportunities that seek to strengthen representative democracy in the Keystone State.
