May is Older Americans Month!
Every May, the Administration for Community Living leads the nation’s observance of Older Americans Month (OAM), to recognize the countless contributions that older adults make to our communities. Their time, experience, and talents enrich the lives of those around them.
Our goal here at AgeWell at the JCC (the senior center within the JCC) is to provide engaging and enriching programming for folks age 60+ in the Greater Pittsburgh Area. Everybody ages, so why not do it well!
Our center provides many opportunities for members to stay active and healthy on a daily basis. If you are interested in improving your balance, try out our Balance/Arthritis exercise class. This exercise program uses movements created by physical therapists that address pain and fatigue while increasing strength.
Prefer the pool? Try out Aqua Arthritis class! If you are not a fan of group exercise (or working out in general) try your hand at Pickleball. Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in America for good reason. It is a fun way for folks to stay active at any age. We offer instructional lessons for beginners, and open play for more experienced players.
Hungry for something healthy? Both AgeWell at the JCC locations (Squirrel Hill and South Hills) now offer lunch. The menus are approved by a nutritionist, and the food is prepared on site in our Kosher kitchens.
All of our AgeWell at the JCC programs – exercise classes, lunch programs, lectures, clubs – provide an opportunity for socialization. Social connectedness is a key factor in healthy aging. Come on out to the AgeWell office at either location to learn more about our programs, and the special activities we have going on in commemoration of Older Americans Month.
On Wednesday, May 17, from 10 am-2 pm, AgeWell at the JCC in Squirrel Hill will be hosting an “open house” to encourage older adults in the area to check out the programs we have to offer. Click HERE for details.
