AgeWell at the JCC Receives Senior Community Center Grant

A state Senior Community Center grant will fund AgeWell at the JCC’s pilot of an innovative program for caregivers.

The Aging Mastery Program (AMP)® for Caregivers through AgeWell at the JCC, developed by the National Council on Aging (NCOA), will be offered in both Squirrel Hill and South Hills beginning in the fall of 2016.  AMP for Caregivers is a 12-week course that will “wrap around” the successful Aging Mastery Program® (AMP).  The program offers a pathway to reach and educate caregivers and care recipients about the impacts of caregiving and provides them with tools to stay healthier and happier in the caregiving journey.

AgeWell at the JCC  recently received word that it is a recipient of a 2015-16 Senior Community Center grants, totaling over $2 million from the Pennsylvania Lottery to be distributed to 43 Senior Community Centers across the commonwealth. The grant awards will advance senior community center projects to modernize facilities, encourage technology improvements, enhance innovative programming, attract new members, build on successful practices and, overall help to meet the needs of their participants.

“One of the most important things we can do for Pennsylvania’s seniors is to provide the means for them to stay active and involved in their communities,” said Pennsylvania Secretary of Aging Teresa Osborne. “These grants will make an important difference in the lives of countless older Pennsylvanians.”

AgeWell at the JCC will receive $132,542. The program is one of two Senior Centers in Allegheny County to receive a grant.
