JCC State of Mind: March 20, 2026 – March Madness

There is definitely something special in the air. As March Madness tips off, we find ourselves swept up in the excitement, the energy, and the sheer unpredictability of one of the most thrilling sporting events of the year.

The tournament gives each of us a chance to root for the teams that matter most to us – our alma maters, our hometown favorites, or even the underdogs who capture our imagination. And then, just when we think we have it all figured out, along comes a moment that reminds us why we watch, such as High Point University stunning the University of Wisconsin on Thursday in a bracket-busting upset. It’s these surprises that make March Madness so compelling. Anything can happen, and often does.

There’s a joy in allowing ourselves to get caught up in it all – from the brackets, the buzzer-beaters, the shared conversations and friendly rivalries. For a few weeks, we lean into both the fanaticism and the unpredictability, embracing a collective experience that brings people together across communities.

And in many ways, this moment mirrors the season we are entering. As winter gives way to spring, we are reminded of the promise of growth, renewal, and new beginnings. Just as teams rise, fall, and rise again on the court, we too have the opportunity to reset, to reenergize, and to look ahead with optimism.

At the JCC, this is a time when our community comes alive in new ways. Programs flourish, connections deepen, and we continue to build something vibrant and meaningful together. Much like March Madness itself, the journey is not always predictable, but it is always full of possibility. Here’s to the excitement of the season – on and off the basketball court – and to embracing the moments no matter the outcome.

Wishing you a Shabbat shalom,

Jason
