The JCC Last Minute Gift Guide

Hanukah starts Sunday evening and Christmas is just around the corner, so we took some time to explore some awesome ideas for those still looking for the ultimate last minute gifts for friends and family.

Successful last minute gift shopping is a skill. Nothing to feel bad about; we’ve all been there. Let us help.

We have compiled some great options that range from online to something you can find Upstreet (this includes the JCC) in Squirrel Hill. We’ve included a photo gallery to help make the process easier.

Make sure to check out our photo gallery below. Happy holidays, everyone! 🙂

ONLINE
  1. Pop Your Pup. This website will take a smartphone photo of your pet and turn it into a vibrant piece of apparel that guarantees the ultimate homage to your loved one. This will be the gift of the season, but demand is high so try to get to the Pop Your Pup website when they start taking orders for the day at 9 am. Also check out the Pop Your Pup Instagram Woof!
  2. Contemporary Concepts.  Everything you find in-store (5820 Forbes Ave., Squirrel Hill) can also be purchased and shipped free online. Three items in particular caught our eye: 1) Embroidered Pittsburgh Pillow, 2) Natural Stone Booze Dispenser for your “Manischewitz” and 3) Stylish, upscale bean bags by Fatboy
  3. The American Jewish Museum. The JCC in Squirrel Hill’s art gallery is hosting a special exhibit through February 19 – Jane Haskell: Drawing in Light. A comprehensive catalogue of Haskell’s work, written by exhibit curators Melissa Hiller and Vicky A. Clark, can be purchased online at Amazon.com
UPSTREET

Shop local for the real hands-on, instant gratification experience:

  1. Classic Lines Bookstore. Located at 5825 Forbes Avenue, is a treasure of a store with its beautiful collection of books, thanks to owner Dan Iddings, a former librarian. Stop by and Iddings and his staff will help you choose the perfect gifts for your loved ones. Located at 5825 Forbes Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15217–great write up by NEXTPittsburgh.
  2. Manor Theater. A Squirrel Hill landmark, this neighborhood gem is one of Pittsburgh top destinations to see a film. Leather seats, beers on tap and home to local film festivals like the Jewish Film Festival and 3 Rivers Film Festival, a gift certificate to the Manor ensures a memorable night at the movies. Located at 1729 Murray Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15217.
  3. Commonplace Coffee House. In addition to serving a great cup of coffee, the Squirrel Hill location sells unique apparel, but most notable is their beautifully pre-packaged coffee. Nothing uncommon in giving the gift of caffeine and delicious flavors from around the world. Located at 5827 Forbes Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15217
THE GIFT THAT KEEPS GIVING
  1. Wigle Whiskey. We are huge fans of their mission to revitalize Pittsburgh roots (think 1794 Whiskey Rebellion) in whiskey distilling. Their online shop plus favorable new liquor laws make this a present that can show up right at your doorstep. Wigle Whiskey does a CSA program (Community Supported Alcohol) where a unique spirit is delivered every month. Options include 3 to 6 months.
  1. Bike Pittsburgh. Even if you drive everyday, we all appreciate the growing trend in Pittsburgh for green space and better places to bike and walk. Bike Pittsburgh is making amazing strides to serve the greater community. Starting at $5 a month, you can show your support by buying a membership for a friend or family member.
  2. Jewish Community Center. We have great gifts for health and wellness, the gift that keeps on giving:

Massage–No explanation needed for this gift! Call 412-697-3544 for an appointment or to purchase gift certificates.

SilverSneakers + Silver and Fit–If you or your parent is over 65, they may be eligible for special membership to the JCC through their health insurance. There’s no more priceless gift than our programs for adults to age well. Call 412-687-3533 or stop in at AgeWell at the JCC in the Irene Kaufmann Building, 5738 Forbes Avenue.
