On Thursday evening, the JCC’s Katz Theater came alive with authentic joy and energy as the Philip Chosky Performing Arts Program and the JCC School of Dance presented this year’s recital, Peter Pan Ballet: Journey to Neverland & Cinematic Dreams. With a nearly packed house filled with friends, family members, and neighbors, the evening was a wonderful celebration not only of dance, but of the spirit and sense of belonging that the arts create within our community.

As I took it all in, I could not help but notice the remarkable way dance brings people together. Performers of all ages and abilities took the stage, moving to music that spanned generations and styles. Hip hop, jazz, ballet, and tap each had their moment to shine. The costumes ran the gamut as well – from sequins and vibrant colors to bouncy tutus and streetwear. This show truly had it all. The audience sang along (or was that only me? 🙂) and could not help but get swept up in the excitement and enthusiasm of the dancers. The closing paragraph in the program summed it up perfectly: “We hope you leave with happy hearts and a little extra rhythm in your step. Until next time…keep dancing!”

Most importantly, the performance reflected something deeper about what happens every day inside the JCC. The arts create connection. They create confidence. They create community. Thursday night was a beautiful reminder that when people feel welcomed, supported, and encouraged to express themselves, something truly special happens on the stage and beyond.
Wishing you and your families a Shabbat shalom,
Jason
