JCC State of Mind: June 6, 2025 – Ribbon Cutting

We have recently gathered to celebrate the ribbon cutting of two new spaces within the JCC—a welcome center at the Henry Kaufmann Family Park in Monroeville and a cabin for 7th and 8th grade campers at EKC. And our cup runneth over, as they say, with yet another ribbon cutting this Sunday, June 8 when we will unveil a completely renovated Cove at J&R Day Camp! As with so much that happens at the JCC, we are reminded that these moments of ceremony—though simple in appearance—carry deep meaning.

A ribbon cutting marks more than the opening of a door or the completion of a project. It is a bold and public declaration of purpose: that we are growing, we are investing in our future, and we are here to stay. It is a collective act of hope and determination, a tangible sign that progress continues—even, and especially, when the world may feel heavy.

As acts of Jew hatred continue to grab the headlines and threaten our sense of security, ribbon cutting ceremonies become more than milestones—they become acts of light. Along with those who have generously funded our most recent round of facility improvements, including the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh, the PA Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, Jim and Nancy Wolf, John Jr. and Martha Wolf, the Phillip Chosky Charitable & Educational Foundation, The Jean, Lillian and Dr. Henry J. Goldstein Endowment Fund, The Goldstein Family, The Goldberg/Weisberg Families and countless others, ribbon cutting ceremonies tell the story of a people and a community that refuses to be defined by fear. Each snip of the ribbon affirms our values: inclusivity, belonging, pride in our Jewish identity, and a commitment to shaping a better world for the next generation.

We don’t gather to pretend things are easy—we gather to remind ourselves and the world that we are united, determined, and full of purpose.

Thank you for being an active part of that purpose!

Wishing you and your family a Shabbat Shalom,

Jason
