Fitness at the JCC: Back to Basics

NPR recently reported that the top fitness trend for 2018 is a return to the basics:

“The latest annual survey of fitness professionals suggests 2018 will find more of us ditching the gadgets and getting back to basics in the way we work out: more resistance training, yoga and jump-ropes; fewer earbuds and iWatches,” according to the article, “Top Fitness Trends For 2018: Back To Basics,” that aired on January 1.

Topping the survey list: High-intensity interval training. Second on the list: Group Exercise classes that include those old standards like body weight exercises, lunges, pushups and planks. Equipment is simple, such as weights, body bars, kettle bells or jump-ropes.

We’re already there.

At the JCC, we offer a huge variety of fitness and wellness classes, staged in dedicated state-of-the-art facilities – workout rooms and studios — in Squirrel Hill and the South Hills, but with the oh-so-important human touch and an expert knowledge of the benefits of low-tech, simple and basic workouts.

Join us for HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) classes, or any of our many other Group Exercise classes that incorporate the High Intensity Interval Training philosophy.

Speaking of Group Exercise…that could be the JCC’s middle name. Between our Squirrel Hill and South Hills facilities, we offer more than 100 Group Exercise classes a week, starting as early as 6 am and as late as 7:15 pm. We want our kids to develop healthy habits so we’ve developed a substantial Youth Fitness program as well.

So are we part of the 2018 Top Fitness Trends? You bet! Please join us as we return to basics at the JCC!
