During American Heart Month: 3 Ways to Decrease Risk of Heart Disease

February is American Heart Month and Go Red for Women. During this time and going forward, it is always helpful to review what you can do to reduce your risk of heart disease.

The American Heart Association identified three areas for improvement to decrease this risk and to focus on. They are:

  1. Move More – Its not exactly a shocker to anyone that we should all be moving more. Whatever type of movement you enjoy-whether it’s running, walking, biking, taking exercise classes. Just move! The JCC in addition to offering a robust exercise class schedule, also has great personal trainers who can help you move more in a safe and effective manner.
  2. Eat Smart -This topic is a little bit more complicated; eating healthier can look different for each person. If you have questions about how you can improve your eating habits-make an appointment with one of the JCC’s dietitians today!
  3. Manage Blood Pressure -This one can be managed in several ways including losing weight, exercising more, improving your diet, and medications. If you are curious about how to better manage your blood pressure, reach out to your physician to see what might be best for you! Even if you aren’t having health issues, it is a good idea to check in with your primary care physician once a year.
Take time to commit to a healthier you in 2019!
