Community Spotlight: Girls on the Run

Girls on the Run: Pittsburgh’s Coolest Running Group

For our first community spotlight post, we want to highlight an awesome fall activity going on at the JCC in the ‘Burgh. Have you heard of Girls on the Run?

GOTR is a national organization reaching millions of girls between 3rd and 8th grade. There is an affiliate here in Pittsburgh associated with Magee-Women’s Hospital.

“Our mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.”

The goal of Girls on the Run is to prepare the girls for a 5K running event, usually held in December.  Between now and then, the group meets twice a week to train.

Much more than just a physical activity, Girls on the Run is a fun challenge that helps girls develop confidence, self-esteem and motivation through health and fitness. Of course, the bigger the group, the bigger the run. So please tell your friends about this cool organization. Make sure to sign up (i.e. if you are girl!)

Friday, September 11, is the deadline to register for Girls on the Run. GOTR also welcomes volunteers. Learn more how to get involved!
