The Jewish Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh, located in Squirrel Hill, is currently looking for part time Fitness Floor staff to join our team. Current available shifts include evenings and weekends.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures all equipment is in working order: inspects equipment and power sources/cords for defects or malfunctions, utilizes the Equipment Maintenance Log to communicate resolved and unresolved issues. Reports any issues via established protocol and resources.
  • Cleans equipment daily: cleans the floor, particularly under and around cardiovascular equipment; wipes down equipment pads and grips with disinfectant; dusts off or wipes down all exterior surfaces of strength training equipment.
  • Re-racks all weights, bars, and attachments to maintain a neat, organized workout area.
  • Provides quality customer service to our members: welcomes all to the Fitness Center, provides encouragement/assistance in achieving fitness goals, answers questions, takes messages, assists with emergencies, provides members with information as needed, performs adjustments to TVs and viewing screens, and educates members about policies/procedures.
  • Must be knowledgeable about all safety and emergency procedures for the equipment and for the JCC. Ensures member safety while on duty.
  • Learns, follows, and enforces all JCC rules, policies and procedures. Follows departmental dress code policy.
  • Understands programs and equipment available at the JCC; shares this knowledge with members.
  • Promptly opens or closes Fitness Center in accordance with established procedure.
  • Attends staff and departmental meetings as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • American Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification is required. Training provided if necessary.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional customer service is required.
  • Must be able to effectively interact with a diversity of individuals.
  • Prior experience in repair and overhaul of fitness equipment is preferred. Strong mechanical aptitude is required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in working with electronic equipment which includes: televisions, cardio theater systems and viewing screens.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to follow projects to completion while keeping stakeholders informed along the process.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our members, staff, and visitors. This role requires a proactive approach to surveillance and conflict management, ensuring that all safety protocols are followed diligently.Works closely with Safety and Security Officers to agency security protocols are adhere to by patrolling and inspecting the premises, monitoring security cameras, guarding entry points and verifying access. Ensures security initiatives and procedures for the agency wide Security organization of the JCC are followed.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complies with security standards for the JCC.
  • Works in conjunction with the Safety and Security Officers to ensure agency support for access control, cameras and IT issues as needed.
  • Monitors security cameras to ensure agency security standards are upheld.
  • Conducts security patrols and ensures that proper protocols are in place throughout the agency.
  • Ensures that property is protected from theft, fire and accidents.
  • Performs First Aid and facilitates the arrival of emergency personnel and provides appropriate documentation of all incidents and accidents as needed.
  • Works closely with security personnel to ensure proper staffing levels with an emphasis on special and after hour events.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed when dealing with difficult, irate or emotionally upset people and situations, both in person and over the phone.
  • Ability to remain calm in difficult, dangerous and high stress emergency situations.
  • Works effectively with other key JCC departments to provide effective and efficient service delivery.

POSITION SUMMARY:

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Peer Engagement Internship is a 10-month paid internship for teens through The Second Floor at the JCC. Interns serve as connectors and builders of Jewish life in Pittsburgh, utilizing their own social networks and creating relationships with Jewish students across the community. Interns attend monthly skill-building workshops and create their own teen-led programs to welcome their peers to The Second Floor space.

Throughout the year, PEIs will meet monthly, beginning with an immersive leadership training experience and followed by monthly training seminars and individual check-ins. These workshops and experiences provide opportunities for real-world skill building in social network mapping, event planning, communication, community organizing, and peer-to-peer engagement. PEIs will also have the opportunity to work with different staff at the JCC, both in our Teen Department and across the agency. Interested students must be in grades 10-12 and over the age of 16 to apply. All First-Year Peer Engagement Interns will be paid at a rate of $9/hour and Returning PEIs will be paid at a rate of $10/hour for the 2024-2025 school year.

All interns are expected to:

  • Attend mandatory monthly meetings and trainings.
  • Connect their peers to opportunities that match their interests.
  • Engage with teens in the space during working hours.
  • Have a fun, outgoing, and friendly attitude!
  • Assist in staffing The Second Floor teen space during open hours at least once a week.

The Clubhouse afterschool program provides care for children grades K-5 through fun and engaging activities and homework support after a day at school. Our program is focused on ensuring the mental, physical and emotional wellbeing of children by providing meaningful opportunities to engage with peers and choose activities based on their own interest. POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our members, staff, and visitors. General Responsibilities:

  • Enforce camp safety regulations
  • Work effectively with co counselor to ensure the physical, mental, and social well-being of all campers
  • Develop group or unit activity plans as requested by the Unit Coordinator
  • Supervise campers under immediate care at all times during the camp day including activities, camper arrival, mealtimes, swim lesson, and dismissal
  • Actively participate in all camper activities and specialty areas
  • Set a good example in all areas of camp life, act as a role model and contributing member of the camp team
  • Communicate with Unit Coordinator in matters involving rules, safety, and programming
  • Willingness to become knowledgeable in Positive Behavior Support techniques and strategies
  • Work closely with Assistant Director and Inclusion Team to ensure each camper is set up for success
  • Share all responsibilities with other staff assigned to your same group
  • Work with Operations Coordinator to ensure all areas of camp are opened and closed properly

  • Assist in conducting initial and end-of-season inventory
  • Set up drama area prior to camp during staff week
  • Prepare lesson plans a week in advance and review with the Program Director to ensure materials needed are available, aspirational arcs are being set, and activities are age appropriate
  • Implement creative weekly lesson plans by unit and age group for Drama that are infused with the Jewish value (middah) of the week
  • Responsible for daily organization and storage of drama equipment and materials
  • Prepare for and lead chugim (club) for 3rd-8th grade campers throughout the summer
  • Assist with large group programming during rainy days, schedule changes, and all camp events
  • Assist in packing all materials and supplies at end of season
  • Must attend and plan for at least one after camp extra programming (late stay or overnight) – additional compensation provided
  • Be a positive, contributing member of the specialist team

  • Set a good example for campers including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing cleanup and chores, and sportsmanship

  • Experience using motion graphics

  • Review all camper forms for assigned unit(s) prior to general staff week and support unit coordinator and counselors in preparing to accommodate individual camper needs in advance of their arrival at camp

The Unit Coordinator is responsible for overseeing an age group of 30-60 campers. Primary responsibilities include supervising staff, maintaining positive relationships with campers, ensuring smooth daily camp operations, communication with support staff and assisting in the creation and facilitation of programs and activities, ensure every child within the camp community is happy, healthy, safe and successful at camp and incorporate safety and support of their individual goals.

  • Track and report camper attendance daily
  • Conduct mid-summer and final evaluations of all unit staff

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Be available for pre-camp planning January – June
  • Participate in Staff Week June 8-12, 2026
  • Attend Camp Open House
  • Manage all concerns that are related to the campers emotional/social wellbeing in collaboration with Director, Assistant Director, Inclusion Specialist and Unit Coordinator
  • Supervise Inclusion Specialists, provide daily support as needed
  • Be an active participant at camp. This looks like being fully engaged and active during the camp day (ex: playing games, modeling for staff, knowing campers names, interfacing with parents at pick up and drop off, etc.)
  • Modeling/training staff how to positively support kids, run a cohesive group, and work with neurodiverse campers
  • Holds staff and campers accountable to camp expectations, rules, and protocol involving behavioral support. This may look like supporting the follow through of consequences or positive reinforcement
  • Oversee the management of all camper concerns (behavioral/emotional, social specific) for assigned unit(s) and serve as the main line of communication between the parent and camper
  • Review all camper forms for assigned unit(s) prior to general staff week and support unit coordinators and counselors in preparing to accommodate individual camper needs in advance of their arrival at camp
  • Attend and present at inclusion meetings at 8:00 am daily. Uses this time to discuss any camper plans, review and explain to staff interventions being used, and present any other inclusion information needed that day
  • Delegate tasks to the inclusion specialists and counselors as needed
  • Document camper concerns and interactions as necessary
  • Participate in group activities daily in order to better understand camper behaviors and group social dynamics in order to support counselors and specialists as they navigate and accommodate camper needs
  • Prepare camp groups for off-site camp activities, field trips, late stays, overnights and special programs
  • Collaborate proactively with camp leadership regarding accommodations needed for camp activities, field trips, etc.
  • Communicate and collaborate professionally with other providers who might be supporting campers via other agencies
  • Remain at camp for late stays and overnights as necessary

  • Prepare for and lead week-long chugim (club) for 3rd-8th grade campers throughout the summer
  • Complete Archery certification course prior to the start of camp (training provided)
  • Foster a positive and inclusive environment where campers are excited about archery and feel confident participating in archery activities
  • Ensure all archery activities are conducted safely, including proper use of equipment and adherence to safety rules
  • Regularly inspect and maintain archery equipment (bows, arrows, targets) to ensure they are in good working condition and safe for use
  • Responsible for daily opening and closing procedures in archery field

  • Have current Red Cross Lifeguard certification

  • Conduct or facilitate weekly training sessions for aquatics staff on swim instruction techniques, CPR, first aid, and emergency procedures.
  • Oversee daily activities of aquatics staff, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Work with Program Director to train camp leadership team and counselors on pool safety, daily procedures and their role during swim instruction
  • Coordinate and manage all aspects of J&R’s swim instruction program, including, but not limited to: tracking camper swim levels, swim tests, oversight of daily swim lessons
  • Generates necessary reports and documentation as needed and/or required
  • Communicate with parents on a regular basis regarding progress, concerns or challenges with their child’s swim lessons
  • Ensure adequate aquatics staffing for all late stays and overnights
  • Communicate and collaborate closely with Unit Heads regarding camper’s swim levels and to ensure that the counselors are being held accountable when they are at the pool
  • Communicate and collaborate closely with the inclusion team to ensure social, emotional needs of campers are being met at the pool, in addressing behavior concerns and teaching and role modeling Positive Behavior Support techniques
  • Oversee the daily operations of the aquatics facility including chemical management and maintenance of the pool, opening and closing procedures, transition of camper age group to and from swim lessons, and overall cleanliness
  • Communicate frequently with Family Park Aquatics Coordinator regarding maintenance and operations and use of the pool outside of camp hours
  • Work with Program Director and camp leadership to make scheduling decisions and changes based on weather, staffing etc.

General Responsibility: Oversee and maintain the health and wellness of J&R Day Camp campers and staff.

Desired Qualifications:

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing medical information for all campers and staff prior to camp starting
  • Triaging campers during daily sick calls and document in Campminder
  • Communicate and collaborate with food service to manage campers and staff with food allergies and dietary accommodations which includes creating and distributing allergy lists for unit heads, kitchen and cooking specialist
  • Assemble and maintain inventory for First Aid Kits for busses (with transportation coordinator) and throughout camp
  • Create and distribute medication lists for unit heads
  • Distribute prescribed medication to campers throughout the camp day
  • Record medication distribution to campers that are handed out as prescribed throughout the camp day
  • Assessing health/injury risks during the camp program
  • Working with the contracted MD via telehealth in diagnosing illnesses and treating injuries when necessary
  • Supervising campers in the health office if they are unable to participate in the camp program
  • Assist in keeping the health office clean and sanitized
  • Attend daily leadership team meeting at 8:00am
  • Communicate with camp operations regarding medical supplies/medications stock (as needed) to keep the health office fully supplied
  • Communicate with parents about the health of their campers via phone and/or e-mail
  • Other duties that may arise to meet the demands of the current health climate and increase the efficiency of health office and/or treatment of campers

General Responsibilities: This position is responsible for overseeing a specialist team of 2-7 specialists. Primary responsibilities include supervising staff, maintaining positive relationships with campers, ensuring smooth daily camp operations, and assisting with the facilitation of programs and activities in specialty area.

General Responsibilities: To plan, direct, and supervise camp’s media program including videography, photography, and all social media platforms and My Camp App

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience and/or certification in or extensive knowledge of photography, videography, and other forms of media

  • Experience using motion graphics

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Be available for pre-camp training in May and June
  • Participate in Staff Week June 15-19, 2026

  • Attend J&R Day Camp Open House
  • Document camp life through video and photos including activity periods, regular activities, and special programs
  • Produce end-of-summer video of camp highlights as well as a picture slideshow
  • Create weekly videos during the camp season for distribution to all camp families

  • Post to social media and My Camp App at least 3 times a day

  • Plan and lead weekly middah activities for camper groups
  • Create Tikkun Olam program for 6th-8th grade campers that includes hands-on, meaningful service-learning opportunities twice throughout the summer

  • Act as a resource to help integrate Jewish values and themes into camp program areas
  • Assist in conducting initial and end-of-season inventory in program area.

  • Partner with staff to meet the individual needs of all campers, especially those who struggle to adjust to the camp community

  • Enforce camp safety regulations
  • Work with Inclusion Coordinator, Specialists, and Consultants to implement behavior charts, visual schedules, etc. specific to individual camper needs

  • Participate in group activities daily to better understand camper behaviors and group social dynamics to support counselors and specialists as they navigate and accommodate camper needs
  • Communicate and collaborate professionally with other providers who might be supporting campers via other agencies
  • Actively participate in all camper activities and specialty areas

Counselors are responsible for the daily care, safety, and well-being of the campers in their assigned cabin. They work closely with and report to their Unit Heads to ensure each camper has a meaningful and successful experience. Residency at Emma Kaufmann Camp is required for the duration of the camp session. This position is an “in-residence” position, requiring staff to live onsite during employment. Emma Kaufmann Camp (EKC) is a co-ed overnight Camp on Cheat Lake in Morgantown, West Virginia. We’re part of the Jewish Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh and serve campers ages 7 to 16. EKC is built on friendship, community, personal growth, and the joy of camp. Our staff help create a supportive environment where campers can be themselves and explore Jewish life in meaningful and engaging ways.

We’re looking for a creative educator who loves camp and knows how powerful Jewish experiences can be in an immersive, pluralistic setting. The Jewish Life Coordinator helps weave Jewish learning and living throughout daily Camp life, partnering with staff at every level to shape a warm, inclusive, and vibrant Jewish environment.

Care and consideration is given to each candidate’s summer availability, including flexibility in working around start and end dates due to schoolwork or other employment opportunities. The Jewish Life Coordinator will report to the Camp Leadership Team. This position is an “in-residence” position and requires living at Camp throughout the summer.

What You’ll Do

Be a central resource for Jewish life at Camp: Serve as a welcoming, accessible partner for campers and staff, helping make Jewish moments feel natural, joyful, and relevant.

Infuse Jewish learning into the flow of Camp: Work with unit heads, counselors, and program specialists to bring Jewish content into activities, conversations, special events, and traditions.

Lead and support Shabbat experiences: Plan and run Shabbat services and programming, and support staff who want to take leadership roles.

Work with Cornerstone Fellows: Coach and mentor Cornerstone Fellows as they design and lead meaningful Jewish experiences.

Collaborate with our song leading and music team: Help create musical moments that feel both spiritually grounded and fun.

Create engaging programs for campers ages 7–16: Design activities that meet campers where they are Jewishly and encourage exploration, creativity, and connection.

Help prepare for the summer: Participate in pre-camp training, staff orientation, and planning sessions.

What You Bring

  • Background in Jewish education (all types of backgrounds are welcomed)
  • Experience with Jewish overnight camps (preferred but not required)
  • Comfort working with campers and staff of all ages
  • Ability to lead in a pluralistic environment and support a wide range of Jewish backgrounds
  • Strong skills in experiential education and informal program design
  • A collaborative spirit and a positive, flexible approach to summer camp life

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Program specialist is responsible for all programming responsibilities and activities at camp. They will plan, set up, execute, and take down all Camp programs, staff programs, etc. They directly report to the Director of Camp Programming and is part of the programming team. This position is an “in-residence” position, requiring them to live onsite during employment. Dates for the summer are June 1st -August 11th, with days off throughout the summer and flexibility for time off based on other projects the employee may be committed to.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend Head Staff and General Staff Orientation, June 1st -June 20th, 2026
  • Organize and lead all special all Camp programming, including but not limited to; Maccabi Color War, Israel Day, and July 4th
  • Lead flagpole daily or schedule and manage “guest leaders” for flagpole
  • Work with unit heads to manage Chugim sign-ups and changes
  • Lead programming training sessions during Head staff training week and General staff training week centered around program planning, program procedures, staff responsibilities , supply ordering, and facilitation techniques.
  • Create all-camp Sikkum programming guide and assist in training general staff on facilitating Sikkums during head staff week
  • Support and assist unit heads with unit programs, Sikkums and any other special unit programming
  • Creates and executes rainy day programming
  • Plan and oversee all logistics regarding weekend programming such as Shabbat Concert, Challah baking, Saturday morning programs
  • Assist or lead any other Camp programs as needed
  • Assist with planning and leading nightly staff activities and weekly staff socials while Camp is in session
  • Attend and participate in out of camp trips as a chaperone as needed
  • Go on out of camp shopping trips for supplies using either a personal or Camp vehicle
  • Plan and execute staff final night banquet
  • Lead and assist in all set up/takedown of all Camp programming, activities, and daily programing as needed

General Responsibility:

A Unit Head is responsible for the supervision and support of counselors while ensuring the well-being and positive experience of all campers in their unit. They lead by example, fostering a caring, inclusive, and engaging environment where staff feel supported, and campers thrive. Unit Heads play a key role in managing day-to-day camper care, addressing behavioral and social needs, and working closely with counselors to create a safe and fun atmosphere. They will collaborate with the leadership team to plan meaningful programming and ensure the highest quality of supervision. The Unit Head will work in partnership with the supervisor team and report to the Assistant Director. This is an “in-residence” position, requiring them to live onsite during employment. Summer dates are June 1-August 9, with flexibility for time off based on other responsibilities.

Responsibilities/Expectations:

  • Attend Head Staff and General Staff Orientation, June 1-June 20, 2026
  • Responsible for the supervision of the Unit Counselors – oversee and support unit counselors, providing feedback, training, and assistance as needed
  • Provide written evaluations for counselors at the end of each session
  • Oversee the social, emotional, and physical needs of campers, ensuring a safe and positive experience
  • Work closely with the Camper Care Specialist to address camper needs, concerns, and behavioral issues
  • Address camper and staff challenges with patience and problem-solving strategies
  • Act as a resource for programming, including Sikkum Moments, rainy day plans, and first/final day programs
  • Lead weekly evening meetings, ensure schedules run smoothly, and maintain a positive unit culture
  • Oversee letter writing, lost & found, mail, and package distribution
  • Coordinate with program staff for Campers Choice, Chugim, and Leagues sign-ups
  • Work closely with fellow leadership team members to support overall camp operations
  • Be responsible for planning and executing unit programs as needed
  • Facilitate the clean-up after activities led by unit
