Kirshner Family Weekend at EKC

This past weekend was our annual Kirshner Family Weekend at Emma Kaufmann Camp.  More than 35 families came to spend the weekend and get the full camp experience.  Everyone had a blast and the weather couldn’t have been better.  From tubing on the lake to horseback riding and zip lining, we all had so many fun adventures.

The weekend kicked off Friday afternoon with swimming in the Wolf Aquatics Center.  Friday evening we had a big Shabbat dinner with included Kim’s (the head of the EKC kitchen) homemade matzah ball soup!  Everyone was so eager to be at camp that we couldn’t end the night there.  After dinner we had family sports night on the upper ball fields where families played volleyball, tennis, soccer, basketball and archery.  We wrapped up the night with a camp fire and s’mores.

Saturday was a full day of activities.  Every family got an opportunity to ride on a boat out on Cheat Lake and go tubing, and got the chance to check out our high ropes course and go zip lining.  In between, families spent the day swimming, playing sports, riding horses and tye dying their Family Weekend T-shirts in the Snow Arts Center. There was fun for all ages, even the little ones who are too young to be campers yet.  Our youngest guests had plenty to do such as swimming in the zero-entry pool, building sand castles on our beach at the lake and doing arts and crafts projects.

Saturday night we had a cookout at the Gilman Pavilion followed by our annual Kirshner Family Weekend Pool Party.  We served burgers, dogs and all the good sides and partied at the pools until the sun went down.  Our pool party DJ had the music up loud and kids even got to participate in a cannon ball contest!  We wrapped up the night with a talent show.  Kids and their parents did magic tricks, sang songs, dances and more!

Of course, we wanted to make sure the adults got a little time to themselves after such a busy day with their kids.  After everyone put the kids to bed, we served a late-night snack buffet with cookies, crackers, cheese trays, veggies and dips and fruit trays.  The first relaxing end to such a great day.

We woke up Sunday morning and the fun continued.  Another hot, sunny day meant everyone stuck around to play.  Kirshner Family Weekend was a huge success and we can’t wait to do it again in August!

The next Kirshner Family Weekend is August 25-27. For more information about Family Weekend and EKC, please contact Rachael Speck by filling out the form below, and she will get back to you shortly.
