At a recent meeting of our JCC leadership team, as we were reflecting on our shared journey of service, resilience, and community, a new phrase started to take root among the group: to JCC.
JCC (verb) /ˌjayˌseeˈsee/
Inflected forms: JCC’d, JCC’ing
Definition: Take action or do something in service of community without necessarily knowing what you are getting yourself into, how to make it work, and/or in spite of any real or perceived challenges.
To JCC means to rise to the moment—especially when the path ahead is uncertain. It means saying “yes” before we know all the details, trusting that together, we’ll figure it out. It’s the instinct to jump in, to collaborate deeply, to carry the weight as a team, and to do whatever it takes to get something across the finish line.
We JCC when we mobilize staff and volunteers in record time to welcome and support those in need. We JCC when we bring a major event to life with creativity and determination. We JCC every time we stretch beyond what seems possible—together—because our mission and our community matter.
It’s more than just doing the work. It’s how we work: with heart, with hustle, with each other.
So, the next time you see a challenge ahead, we hope you’ll hear someone say: Let’s JCC this. And when you do, you’ll know exactly what it means.
Wishing you and your family a Shabbat shalom,
Jason
