Yom Kippur: Bearing Witness: Hope and Resilience Through Listening

Engage in teshuvah (repentance) by listening, remembering and empowering storytellers.
Together we will explore resonant listening through stories from Julie Armagost and Alain Tamonoche.
A short service will accompany the program.
Julie Armagost has spent the past 15 years immersed in mutual aid work grounded in harm reduction.
Since 2021, she has been providing direct care and support to those experiencing homelessness
in Pittsburgh as a street outreach coordinator with Bridge Outreach.
Currently, Julie is focused on her work as a death doula, nurturing the invisible ties that bind us all by
offering a space for grief and end-of-life support to our unhoused neighbors.
Alain Tamonoche is a Bamileke elder and activist based in Pittsburgh.
A co-founder and facilitator of the Bamileke diaspora organization La’akam, Alain has spent over a
decade promoting the cultural and spiritual renewal of the Bamileke people and raising awareness about
the genocide perpetrated against them in Cameroon from the late 1950s to early 1960s.
A small business owner and father of three, he has an MS in Legal Studies from California University
of PA and is the former starting center of the Cameroonian national basketball team.
