CFLK: UPstander Opportunities

April 17, 2020 to May 31, 2020

Here are UPstander opportunities with organizations throughout several Pittsburgh neighborhoods dedicated to serving community. Long-standing Center for Loving Kindness allies, these organizations are seeing unprecedented need and have identified ways for us to help.

Because we are organizing this outreach through Project UPstanders of the JCC’s Center for Loving Kindness, we encourage you to send us an email at [email protected] alerting us that you have signed up to volunteer. Knowing who signed up allows us to gather virtually to talk about our experiences and support each other.

We hope you join us in being UPstanders.
Your Center for Loving Kindness team,

Rabbi Ron Symons
Cathy Samuels
Melissa Hiller
Fara Marcus
Margie Ruttenberg

  • Towels
  • Linens
  • Bed Spreads
  • Plates and Dishes
  • Pots and Pans
  • Silverware
  • Clothing
  • Coats/Jackets (already thinking about Fall school openings)

We are excited to share a new volunteer opportunity with 412FoodRescue, whose mission is to prevent good food from being wasted by redirecting it to those who are experiencing food insecurity.

Under normal circumstances, a volunteer “412FoodRescue Hero” gets notified through an app on their phone about a pick-up from an institution that has extra food and an institution that needs food.  The food rescue hero makes the drive between the institutions to transfer the food.

412FoodRescue is adapting its model to make at-home deliveries in response to the necessity of being physically distant, and they are looking for volunteers to help ensure that people get access to food.

You can learn more about the process and the no-contact precautions they are instituting by watching this video.  https://vimeo.com/405180577/48478cdeb3.

412FoodRescue allows you to volunteer on your own schedule. Click on this link https://412foodrescue.org/take-action/volunteer/ and follow the instructions to download the app on your device.  All you have to do is sign up and accept your first opportunity to volunteer.
