Essential Functions:

  • Ensure all equipment is in working order: inspect equipment and power sources/cords for defects or malfunctions, utilize the Equipment Maintenance Log to communicate resolved and unresolved issues. Report any issues via established protocol and resources.
  • Clean equipment daily: clean the floor, particularly under and around cardiovascular equipment; wipe down equipment pads and grips with disinfectant; dust off or wipe down all exterior surfaces of strength training equipment.
  • Re-rack all weights, bars, and attachments to maintain a neat, organized workout area.
  • Provide quality customer service to our members: welcome all to the Fitness Center, provide encouragement/assistance in achieving fitness goals, answer questions, take messages, assist with emergencies, provide members with information as needed, perform adjustments to TVs and viewing screens, and educate members about policies/procedures.
  • Must be knowledgeable about all safety and emergency procedures for the equipment and for the JCC. Ensure member safety while on duty.
  • Learn, follow, and enforce all JCC rules, policies and procedures. Follow departmental dress code policy.
  • Be familiar with programs and equipment available at the JCC; share this knowledge with customers.

Minimum Qualifications:

The Clubhouse afterschool program provides care for children grades K-5 through fun and engaging activities and homework support after a day at school. POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for the provision of fitness and wellness experiences for members through personal training, group exercise programs, new member orientations, monitoring of equipment and floor coverage, and other related programming for the JCC’s South Hills Branch location.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works closely with the Department Director in the development and implementation of short and long-term program goals for fitness and wellness, in keeping with the mission and operating goals of the agency.
  • Works in close partnership with key department leadership in developing and managing current and new programs for members of all ages.
  • Maintains personal training, class schedules and class attendance in member management software.
  • Manages the fitness floor operations and floor staff.
  • Assists with supervision of the Personal Training program, including setting and reaching sales goals, developing budget, hiring, and training part-time staff and scheduling appointments.
  • Instructs and implements fitness classes as needed.
  • Provides personnel management for personal training, Gait Better, and fitness floor, which includes payroll and scheduling, as needed.
  • Provides 35 hours of direct service, including 4 hours of Personal Training to the agency per week.

General Responsibility:

The Unit Coordinator is responsible for overseeing an age group of 30-60 campers. Primary responsibilities include supervising staff, maintaining positive relationships with campers, ensuring smooth daily camp operations, communication with support staff and assisting in the creation and facilitation of programs and activities, ensure every child within the camp community is happy, healthy, safe and successful at camp and incorporate safety and support of their individual goals.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Be available for 16 hours of remote pre-camp planning in May and June
  • Participate in Staff Week June 9-14, 2024
  • Assist in running South Hills Day Camp Open House
  • Ability to model leading expectations, group management and other Positive Behavior Support strategies
  • Ability to problem solve and be flexible as schedule changes, weather challenges and other issues arise
  • Confidently communicates with staff not only for camper struggles/conflict but strengths as well Partner with staff to meet the individual needs of all campers
  • Oversee the daily operations and procedures within your unit, including, but not limited to: arrival and dismissal, meal and snack time, changing to and from swim, sorting and returning lost and found, opening and closing procedures at assigned home base area
  • Provide supervision and support to all counselors in assigned unit; including but not limited to one on one check ins, written and verbal feedback, staff appreciation initiatives
  • Be an active participant at camp. This looks like being fully engaged and active during the camp day (ex: playing games, modeling for staff, knowing campers names, interfacing with parents at pick up and drop off, etc.)
  • Modeling/training staff how to positively support kids, run a cohesive group, and work with neurodiverse campers
  • Holds staff and campers accountable to camp expectations, rules, and protocol involving behavioral support. This may look like supporting the follow through of consequences or positive reinforcement
  • Partner with staff to meet the individual needs of all campers, especially those who struggle to adjust to the camp community
  • Work with Inclusion Directors and Inclusion Consultant to create behavior charts, visual schedules, etc. specific to individual camper needs
  • Attend and present at leadership team meetings at 8:00 am daily. Uses this time to discuss any camper plans, review and explain interventions being used, and present any other information needed that day
  • Participate in daily supervision meeting as part of the inclusion team
  • Participate in group activities daily in order to better understand camper behaviors and group social dynamics in order to support counselors and specialists as they navigate and accommodate camper needs
  • Collaborate proactively with camp leadership regarding accommodations needed for camp activities, field trips, etc.
  • Assist Aquatics Coordinator in organizing and supporting daily instructional swim for assigned unit
  • Collaborate with Program Coordinator to plan programs for your unit based on weekly themes, special events, Jewish values etc.
  • Communicate with program director and program coordinator to ensure all supplies for unit programs are ordered and available
  • Track and report camper attendance daily
  • Conduct mid-summer and final evaluations of all unit staff
  • Prepare for and actively participate in staff trainings and meetings both before camp starts and ongoing throughout the summer
  • Work with Operations Coordinator to ensure that all spaces at camp are opened and closed properly
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Be an active participant at camp. This looks like being fully engaged and active during the camp day (ex: playing games, modeling for staff, knowing campers names, interfacing with parents at pick up and drop off, etc.)

  • Modeling/training staff how to positively support kids, run a engaging activity, and work with neurodiverse campers

General Responsibility:

The Unit Leader is responsible for overseeing an age group of 40-70 campers. Specific Responsibilities:

  • Be available for 16 hours of pre-camp planning in May and June
  • Assist in leading, coordinating and participating in Staff week, June 17-21, 2024
  • Assist in running and attend J&R Day Camp Open House
  • Oversee the daily operations and procedures within your unit, including, but not limited to: arrival and dismissal, meal and snack time, changing to and from swim, sorting and returning lost and found, opening and closing procedures at assigned home base area
  • Communicate and collaborate closely with Inclusion Unit Head to ensure social, emotional needs of campers are being met, in addressing behavior concerns and teaching and role modeling Positive Behavior Support techniques
  • Provide supervision and support to all counselors in assigned unit; including but not limited to one on one check ins, written and verbal feedback, staff appreciation initiatives
  • Assist Aquatics Coordinator in organizing and supporting daily instructional swim for assigned unit
  • Collaborate with Program Coordinator to plan programs for your unit based on weekly themes, special events, Jewish values etc.
  • Communicate with program director and program coordinator to ensure all supplies for unit programs are ordered and available
  • Attend daily leadership team meetings at 8:00am
  • Track and report camper attendance daily
  • Conduct mid-summer and final evaluations of all unit staff

  • Be an active participant at camp. This looks like being fully engaged and active during the camp day (ex: playing games, modeling for staff, knowing campers names, interfacing with parents at pick up and drop off, etc.)
  • Modeling/training staff how to positively support kids, run a cohesive group, and work with neurodiverse campers
  • Oversee the management of all camper concerns (behavioral/emotional/social specific) for assigned unit(s) and serve as the main line of communication between the parent and camper
  • Holds staff and campers accountable to camp expectations, rules, and protocol involving behavioral support. This may look like supporting the follow through of consequences or positive reinforcement
  • Partner with staff to meet the individual needs of all campers, especially those who struggle to adjust to the camp community
  • Work with Inclusion Directors and Inclusion Consultant to create behavior charts, visual schedules, etc. specific to individual camper needs
  • Communicate and collaborate with Unit Head on a daily basis
  • Review all camper forms for assigned unit(s) prior to general staff week and support unit heads and counselors in preparing to accommodate individual camper needs in advance of their arrival at camp
  • Communicate with parents via email and phone call daily about the mental, emotional and social wellbeing of their children and any related concerns or accommodations
  • Attend and present at leadership team meetings at 8:00 am daily. Uses this time to discuss any camper plans, review and explain to staff interventions being used, and present any other inclusion information needed that day
  • Participate in daily supervision meeting as part of the inclusion team
  • Work closely with Master’s level helping interns who are completing practicum or internship at camp via mentoring and modeling
  • Delegate tasks to other members of the inclusion team as needed
  • Document camper concerns and interactions as necessary
  • Participate in group activities daily in order to better understand camper behaviors and group social dynamics in order to support counselors and specialists as they navigate and accommodate camper needs
  • Prepare camp groups for off-site camp activities, field trips, late stays, overnights and special programs
  • Collaborate proactively with camp leadership regarding accommodations needed for camp activities, field trips, etc.
  • Communicate and collaborate professionally with other providers who might be supporting campers via other agencies

  • Prepare lesson plans a week in advance and review with the Outdoor Adventure Coordinator to ensure materials needed are available, aspirational arcs are being set, and activities are age appropriate
  • Implement creative weekly lesson plans by unit and age group for Ropes Course activites that are infused with the Jewish value (middah) of the week
  • Prepare for and lead week-long chugim (club) for 3rd-8th grade campers throughout the summer
  • Be responsible for daily opening and closing procedures in the Ropes Course
  • Responsible for organization of all Ropes Course materials
  • Responsible for safety of all equipment, activities, and elements at all times in the Ropes Course
  • Assist in shut down procedures and packing all materials and supplies at end of season
  • Required to obtain Ropes Course Certification and training (provided)
  • Required to complete Archery certification and training (provided)
  • Must attend and plan for at least one after camp extra programming (late stay or overnight) – additional compensation provided
  • Be a positive, contributing member of the specialist team

General Responsibility:

The Videographer is responsible for documenting camp life through video and producing video appropriate for viewing both in camp and online. The videographer will also be charged with producing videos for various projects to be used in Camp programs. The videographer will be involved in all other media related endeavors, including, but not limited to; photography, blog, and social media. The videographer is a seasonal summer employee of the Camp team. The videographer will work in partnership with the program team, and will report to the Camp Director. This position is an “in-residence” position, requiring them to live onsite during employment. Dates for the summer are June 7 – August 4, with flexibility for time off based on other projects the employee may be committed to.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience and/or certification in or extensive knowledge of photography, videography, and other forms of media
  • Desire and willingness to engage with children
  • Ability and willingness to accept supervision and guidance
  • Ability to problem solve and be flexible as schedule changes, weather challenges and other issues arise
  • Experience working with children ages 6-16 in a recreational setting.
  • Possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
